Portability is part of preservation.
A provider can change pricing, discontinue features, suspend an account, or close. Keep the original files, know how to export them, and maintain at least one separate backup that is not dependent on the same login or provider.
- Keep account-recovery details and billing current.
- Review export options and test one small export now.
- Maintain a local copy plus an independent off-site backup.
- Watch provider notices and allow time to migrate.
