Encryption is valuable only if recovery is planned.
Encryption in transit protects data moving between your device and a service. Encryption at rest protects stored data. End-to-end or client-side encryption can give stronger control, but you must protect keys and recovery methods; losing them may make data unrecoverable.
- Use a password manager and unique account passwords.
- Enable MFA and store recovery codes offline.
- Encrypt portable drives and protect the recovery key.
- Share only with named people and review access periodically.
